St. Albert of Jerusalem Feast: September 17th St. Albert of Jerusalem was not a Carmelite himself, but a member of the Order of Canons Regular of the Holy Cross. In the 13th century, he was the Patriarch (i.e., bishop) of Jerusalem. (This is why he is pictured in our window wearing a bishop’s mitre and holding a crosier.) However, during his time as Patriarch, he was unable to live in Jerusalem because it was occupied by the Saracens. Thus, he lived in Acre instead, just across the Bay of Haifa from Mt. Carmel. The Latin Hermits who were living on Mt. Carmel invited Albert the Patriarch to come and live with them so as to write for them a Formula of Life (a rule – represented by the book he is holding in his hand). Because of this text, which is still the basic law for the formation and discipline of the Carmelites, the Order venerates St. Albert as its “lawgiver.” Our window honoring St. Albert was given in memory of Agnes & Joseph Kaspar and Adelyn & Joseph Kaspar.

San Alberto de Jerusalén Fiesta: 17 de Septiembre San Alberto no era Carmelita, sino un miembro de la Orden de Canónigos Regulares de la Santa Cruz. En el siglo décimotercio, era el Patriarca (Obispo) de Jerusalén. (Por esta razón él está mostrado en nuestra ventana llevando una mitra y reteniendo un bastón del pastor.) Pero, durante su tiempo como Patriarca, no pudo vivir en Jerusalén por que la ciudad fue ocupado por los Saracenos. Se radicó en Acre, justamente en la bahia de Haifa en frente de Monte Carmelo. Los ermitaños de rito latino que vivían en el Monte Carmelo invitaron al Patriarca Alberto para que viniera a vivir con ellos y a que escribiera para ellos una Formula de Vida (una regla – representado por el libro en su mano). Debido a éste texto, el cual es todavía la base de la formación y de la disciplina Carmelita, la Orden venera a San Alberto como su “legislador.” Nuestra ventana honrando a San Alberto fue donado en memorial de Agnes & Joseph Kaspar y Adelyn & Joseph Kaspar.
