Blessed John Soreth, O.Carm. Feast day: July 24th John Soreth was born at Caen, Normandy and entered Carmel as a young man. He served as the Regent of Studies and at the Prior Provincial of his province in France. In the last 20 years of his life, he was Prior General of the Carmelite Order. He is especially remembered as a reformer for his constant efforts to bring the Order back to a stricter religious observance based upon the Order’s rule and a new set of constitutions which he spearheaded and for which he wrote a commentary. It was under his leadership that Carmelite communities of women and laity (the Third Order) began. He is often represented with a pyx (a small vessel used to carry the consecrated host to the sick) in his hands. This is in memory of an event which occurred in Liège during the devastation of the city. Blessed John Soreth, braving death, gathered up the Sacred Hosts which the people had seized and thrown about on the ground, and carried them into the church of his Order. Beato Juan Soreth, O.Carm. Fiesta día: 24 de Julio Juan Soreth nació en Caen, Normandía y entró el Carmelo muy joven. Sirvió como Regente de Estudios y como Prior Provincial en su provincia en Francia. Los últimos 20 años de su vida, fue el Prior General de la Orden de Carmelitas. El es espcialmente recordado como un reformador por su constante esfuerzo de regresar a la Orden a sus prácticas religiosas estrictas basadas en la regla de la Orden y nuevas constituciones que él guió y por las que escribió un comentario. Fue bajo su liderazgo que las comunidades de ambos Carmelitas de mujeres y de laicos (El Orden Tercero) empezaron. A menudo es representado con un pix (un pequeño contenedor usado para llevar las hostias consagradas a los enfermos) en sus manos. Es como recuerdo de un evento que ocurrió en Liège durante la devastación de la ciudad. El Beato Juan Soreth, enfrentado con la muerte, recogió las Sagradas Hostias que la gente había tirado al suelo y las llevó a la iglesia de su Orden.
